Amblyseius cucumeris are small predatory mites that feed on thrip larvae and their eggs. They feed mainly on the small or first instar larvae of Western Flower thrip (Frankiniella occidentalis).
Each predator will consume many thrip young and eggs, moving around the plant and flowers in search of their prey.
Amblyseis will feed on flower pollen which allows their introduction before pests are present. With predators on the plant at all times, any news signs of thrip will be killed before they can take hold. Each sachet will release fresh predators for 3-4 weeks. We advise using these sachets as part of our preventative system rather than as a cure for heavy infestations.
If thrip is present in large numbers already (signs of leaf damage and numerous thrip) we advise switching to our curative system. This consists of loose Amblyseius swirskii and loose Amblyseius cucumeris applied together every 7-10 days until control is achieved.
Please ensure you have read the appropriate conditions for using cucumeris before purchase, these can be found below.
We advise applying these sachets as a preventative system against thrips when you have temperatures between 10-20 degrees. This means having an active sachet on plants at all times, from propagation to full growth.
Amblyseius cucumeris are active at temperatures between 10-30 degrees. Relative humidity should be at 70% (below 60% no eggs will hatch and populations cannot increase) DO NOT apply if you have used chemical treatments in the past 2 weeks.
Each sachet lasts around 3-4 weeks and should then be replaced to keep a steady flow of fresh predators on the plant.
Based on an average plant 1m in height. We recommend the following application rate;
1-2 sachets per plant
Simply hang sachets on the plant from the convenient hooks provided, there is a hole already in the sachet so they are ready to apply straight away.
Unfortunately due to the 4 week life cycle you cannot store the sachets for later use.
Amblyseius cucumeris is a living creature and can be affected by any chemical pesticides used within the previous few weeks. As a guide cease using pyrethrum or SB plant invigorator 2 days prior to use and other persistent chemicals or universal bug killers 1-2 weeks before using cucumeris.
