The Pea & Bean Weevil (Sitona lineatus) is a common pest found within Broad Bean and Pea crops. The Pea & Bean Weevil is an early pest that affects spring-sown crops.
The Pea & Bean Weevil Trap works via use of an effective species-specific pheromone lure. This lure entices both male and female Pea & Bean Weevils into the trap.
Once the pests are within the trap they cannot escape.
The traps are effective for monitoring purposes as well as effective pest control, as the beetles are easy to detect, count and identify once caught within the trap.
1. First, place the funnel onto the green bucket.
2. Secondly, place the opened attractant lure in the transparent top of the trap.
3. Lastly, fix the transparent top to the funnel with a twist action lining up the slots.
Place the traps 10 metres apart on a grass margin or the headland of a field that was planted with peas, or beans, in the previous year.
Use the Pea & Bean Weevil Trap from February onwards.
We advise that you use five traps per field. One to two traps will be sufficient for smaller areas.
Check the traps three times a week. When more than 30 Weevils are counted on any occasion the crops that have emerged, or crops due to emerge, will be at risk. Ensure then to have multiple traps in place to combat the Weevils.
The trap can be used for years and replacement lures can be purchased for additional coverage. The lures are designed to last an entire Pea & Bean Weevil season (roughly 6 weeks).
